Anyone that has ever dabbled in music would probably agree that finding a good drummer is a very tough task. Drummers may not have the glamorous position of a singer or guitarist, but it's their handiwork that gets your feet tapping to the music. We recently had the opportunity to interview a talented drummer by the name of Julie Bonner who lends her talents to two bands in Tucson - Mozart's Sister and Sara Bellum. Make sure to check them out if you happen to be traveling through Arizona sometime (or if you're local to the area). Also, give a listen to Mozart's Sister's EP that came out last year, which is available for purchase on their website. 

Q: Describe yourself in three words.

JB: Happy. Energetic. Goofy.

Q: How old were you when you started playing the drums?

JB: 23. I bought a Yamaha electronic set in Philly, so I wouldn't get kicked out of my apartment at the time. I used my headphones and drummed to my STP cd.

Q: Do you feel that female drummers still have to overcome the stereotype that drumming is a profession meant only for men?

JB: The thought never occurred to me.

Q: Who are your all-time favorite drummers?

JB: Travis Barker

Q: Do you think you perform better while happy or angry? It would seem that being a drummer would be a great outlet to release some frustration.

JB: I think the audience can tell that I am really happy while I am playing. My cheesy grin says it all.

Q: You're a member of both Mozart's Sister and Sara Bellum, do you find it hard to juggle responsibilities in both bands?

JB: I don't find it hard, I have great band mates who are flexible, get along and communicate well.

Q: Mozart's Sister recorded an EP in 2006, how would you describe that recording experience?

JB: That was exciting and a great experience. Since then we have recorded more songs and are looking to have a full-length album shortly.

Q: If you could play any venue in the world, where would you choose and why?

JB: That's a really good question. Playing at the castle in Edinburgh, Scotland would be awesome. Somewhere with all that history and friendly people would be a blast!

Q: Does Mozart's Sister or Sara Bellum have any upcoming shows that we should know about?

JB: Yes we do. Mozart's Sister will be at Plush again Thursday March 1st and then in downtown Phoenix at Casa Blanca on Saturday March 3rd.

Q: I say wombat, you say...
