Government studies are now underway to alter human DNA to produce and utilize chlorophyll much as plants do. The idea is that the human mechanism will be able to process the increasing levels of CO2 in the atmosphere. Touted as the "salvation from global warming," the study is showing promise in many areas. While the study is currently focusing on humans, the research will be pursued in parallel partner studies to include various species of mammals deemed necessary for quality of life in an uncertain future. These will include utilitarian species such as beef cattle and chickens, as well as such "comfort" species as puppies and kittens. Cattle will be especially important because the process of clearing rainforests and other high-growth plant corridors is seen as eliminating what will certainly be seen as competitive species as we rely more and more on CO2 for respiration. There is some question as to whether humans will continue to crave beef and other meats as we develop more plant-like characteristics but it has been forecasted that as a highly mobile species we will never completely eliminate the need for outside nutritional sources. There are currently no known plant species outside of fiction employing advanced locomotor skills but it has been stressed that even though the human mechanism will be altered to a certain degree it will remain, essentially, an animal species. This is not considered hybridization or speciation in a strict sense but merely a genetic manipulation that may have occurred naturally over millions of years of evolutionary development as the planet changes over time to a more dense, greenhouse atmosphere. Current projections anticipate some hesitation on behalf of some parts of the population since the program will, by necessity, leave the human population with a decidedly green tint in the epidermal layers. Talk of "little green men" has made the rounds as a potentially negative stereotype that will inevitably arise from the physical changes resulting from the genetic enhancement. To encourage the transition to the program and to help ease tension in those who hesitate to meddle with "God's intentions," there is an advance team working in the area of public relations. The first, and projected to be the main theme of the transition team, is the "Lean To The Green" program. This series of informative PSAs and short films will feature such popular green celebrities as Kermit the Frog and the Geico Gecko. Until the full launch of the program there will be a slow transition to the emphasis on green as positive. Hollywood and all of the main fashion magazines and advertising agencies will be encouraged to begin the shift by incorporating green-hued make-up as the "new beautiful." Look for increased use of green inks in government forms and more and more references to the "greening" of the economy, the environment, and the "green lighting" of essential government projects. While the actual genetic treatments are projected to be years from full use the shift to "green thinking" will begin soon. Thinking "green" will no longer be synonymous with environmental issues and attempts to "save" the planet from global warming, etc. In fact, just the opposite will take place. It will soon become evident that since global warming is inevitable we should embrace it and make our transition to an advanced chlorophyllated species as quickly as possible. Watch for the shift in jargon as the new paradigm is put into place. If you do a Google search for "it's good to be green" you will see many excellent examples of this shift already taking place. |
