Lustra

Lustra gained worldwide recognition a couple years back for their song "Scotty Doesn't Know," which they wrote for the movie EuroTrip. This catchy tune about the main character's (Scotty) cheating girlfriend was a central theme to the movie, and is admittedly one of our favorite songs to rock out to at WickedInfo. The fact that Matt Damon had a cameo portraying the singer in the movie makes it all the more enjoyable.

We recently had the opportunity to conduct an interview with the lead singer of Lustra, Chris Baird. While we hope you enjoy our interview with Chris, we also want to make sure you get the opportunity to hear Lustra's great music for yourself. As such, be sure to head over to their MySpace page at MySpace.com/Lustra to stay up to date on their upcoming record and to hear "Scotty Doesn't Know" (and find out what Scotty doesn't know) for yourself.

Q: Your hit song "Scotty Doesn't Know," from the movie Eurotrip, is in constant rotation here at the Wicked Info office. Tell us the story behind crafting this hilariously cruel, yet undeniably catchy tune?

CB: It started as a guitar riff that Nick had written for another song altogether. We quickly worked out the bones of it-we actually recorded the demo of it with me playing drums in our garage (with a visit from the police). We sent the demo to Dreamworks (along with 400 other demos) and were then selected as the band who 'got the job.' We sped up the tempo and then read the Eurotrip script. After talking to the directors we crafted the words to reflect the main character's whore ex-girlfriend.

Q: Speaking of Eurotrip, do you ever get tired of hearing that your lead singer looks a lot like Matt Damon?

CB: Umm, me being the lead singer I haven't heard this one. I guess that would be a good problem to have.

Q: On your song "Sniffing Cigarettes," you sing:

I've got your phone
And now I'll call your friends
I'll let know them know
That it was all for real
We weren't pretending

What is it about break-ups that make us act out childlike impulses?

CB: I think because we revert to our primal instincts. I don't think anybody grows up-I think some people are better at hiding it than others.

Q: If you could pick any artist or band to perform the "Lustra: Tribute Album," who would it be?

CB: Creed or the Monkees...seriously? If the Pixies even played half of one of our songs I'd get a sex change and rape our guitarist Nick out of pure joy.

Q: So your band started in Boston, MA and now you've landed in sunny Los Angeles, CA. What would you list as the three best and worst things about both cities?

CB: Boston - Best things: Bars, the Fall, Dunkin Donuts. Worst things: Girls, Emerson students, rent.

LA - Best things: Weather, Girls, In-n-out. Worst things: Little girls in big SUV's, traffic, RENT.

Q: If you were banished to Mars, (helluva tough planet to play on) and were able to bring only five albums with you, which would you pick?

CB: Wow, I always think what I would do if I was stuck on mars with a record player that had its own generator.

1) Pixies: Surfer Rosa
2) Black Rebel Motorcycle Club: Baby81
3) Pavement: Crooked, Crooked Rain
4) Smashing Pumpkins: Siamese Dreams
5) Nirvana: In Utero

Q: What's the most over-rated element in making good music?

CB: That you have to structure your songs after the popular ones on KROQ and that you have to be 15 years old and suck your own dick why you listen to Fall Out Boy to sell your songs.

Q: June Masters Bacher once said "Love is like a violin. The music may stop now and then, but the strings remain forever." What love song resonates most with you?

CB: Vienna-Billy Joel. Timeless, with sound advice.

Q: Where can we catch more of your band's great music?

CB: Thanks for asking. One can always go to our MySpace page which is: MySpace.com/Lustra and download a song from SnoCap or on Itunes.

We also have a brand new record coming out this winter-with a new version of Scotty Doesn't Know...

Q: We end interviews with word association. So I say wombat and you say...

CB: Queef.
