Mike Grimmett

If you're a fan of rock n' roll, or just great music in general, then Rockets To Ruin is a must for you to check out. Hailing from Atlanta, GA, their inspiration comes from such influential bands as Guns N' Roses, Motley Crue, The Ramones, KISS, and AC/DC. The result? They produce music that is filled with that barebones rock n' roll sound that has been missing from the music world for the past few years.

Our interview with Mike Grimmett, the lead guitarist for Rockets To Ruin, is below, but you'll also want to make sure to check out their music on their MySpace page at MySpace.com/RocketsToRuin and their website at RocketsToRuin.com. Make a point to view their tour schedule because this is one act you won't want to miss!

Q: How would you describe your struggles and triumphs as a guitar player?

MG: Struggles - trying to make enough time to get it done. I think I finally figured out that I am what I am, and if that's not good enough for anybody else, fuck it. It came to me pretty naturally, and I became obsessed with it as a teenager. Triumphs - being in some really good bands and turning out some songs and riffs that I am really proud of. I have had the priveledge of playng with many great rock musicians.

Q: "Take a Ride with Me" is your band's most popular download on iTunes, but if your career depended on it, would it be the song you would choose to play?

MG: Probably "We are the Drugs" or "One More Fix".

Q: How did your group's name originate?

MG: We were writing down names on a big board at our rehearsal studio, and Chris brought in the name. A combo of Ramones song titles. We thought it was cool...so done and done.

Q: Who would you list as your personal and music-related idols?

MG: Personal Idols - my parents and my wife and children.
Music- The Stones, Beatles, Jimmy Page, Ted Nugent, Joe Perry, Slash, etc.

Q: Playing under the influence - Great idea or a great way to ruin a performance?

MG: Getting hammered NEVER works and it ruins the show every time....It has happened a couple of times (and it can ruin the ride home). Generally, I like getting loose with a couple of drinks and taking the edge off. Sometimes we smoke crack, it just depends on what city you are in.

Q: What would your fans be shocked to learn about you?

MG: Most of them probably don't know that I have 2 daughters that are twins.

Q: At what age did you develop your passion for music?

MG: Probably about 12 to 13.

Q: What's the most crucial element in making great songs?

MG: The guitar solo of course. No probably the vibe in general that is created between the riff and the vocal line.

Q: Where can we catch more of your band's upcoming music?

MG: Hopefully in a town near you very soon.

Q: Let's end with word association. I say "wombat" and you say...

MG: "Medium Rare."
