Melissa Rauch

Melissa Rauch is a stand-up comedian and regular contributor on VH1's Best Week Ever. Along with her appearances on television, she can also be seen in the upcoming movie Delirious starring Steve Buscemi and Minnie Driver. Among her many accomplishments she was named "Best College Comedian" on MTV's TRL. For more information on Melissa you can visit her website at MelissaRauch.com, also make sure to check out her hilarious rap video Startin' Out As An Intern at Revver.com/video/51257/22717.

Q: We simply adore you on VH1's Best Week Ever and we've often noted how angelic looks seem to belie your acerbic wit. What's your weekly preparation for delivering such vibrant humor each week?

MR: Thank you! Well, I make sure I get enough sleep, drink a lot of water, take a multi-vitamin and since most comedy comes from pain, I pay a neighborhood tough to beat the crap out of me with brass knuckles at least once a week.

Q: You've won numerous awards and a hefty amount of praise for your performance in your one-woman show, "The Miss Education of Jenna Bush." Your political barbs and savvy show such intellect that we wonder if perhaps we'll be seeing you make a political run in perhaps ......2012?

MR: I would love to run- but I'd be afraid of the mudslinging and all the skeletons that would be dragged out of my closet...Seriously, I would die if the world found out about my real estate deal with a Saudi lobbyist ...can you not print that?

Q: What advice would you give to young thespians trying to break into the comedy scene?

MR: Just get out there and do it. If you want to do stand-up, get yourself to an open mic and start trying out material. I'm also a big supporter of writing your own vehicle. If you haven't landed the right role for you yet, create it yourself. But, I don't know why this question is just for thespians, Simon. You can like dudes and still do comedy!

Q: You've toured the country with the esteemed political satire group "Gross National Product." What would you list as the most exhilarating part of traversing the country?

MR: I love rest stops. The smell, the food, the machines that flatten your penny and imprint the name of the state you're passing through for $5.00, and folks who walk with a limp wearing t-shirts that have hilarious sayings on them like, "One tequila, two tequila, three tequila floor," (so funny cause it's true).

Q: Will your answer to this question be no?

MR: You're such a pessimist.

Q: Like you, your boyfriend Winston Beigel, is also a highly gifted writer. Go ahead and dish a bit, who's the more talented when it comes to crafting a joke?

MR: I can't lie, Winston's better at crafting a joke- but I'm way better at crafting macaroni necklaces. His macaroni necklaces suck hard-core. It's embarrassing how horrible they are. His crafting of paper mache figurines are a huge disgrace as well. I must say, I do love crafting jokes together. It's our little creation...kind of like a baby except without having to change a diaper or put it through college. Although, one joke we made together insisted I breast feed it, and that's when we put it up for adoption. I never want to see that little bastard again.

Q: You list your athletic interests as kickboxing, yoga, volleyball, baseball, spinning, and biking. Which sport would you call yourself most proficient at?

MR: I am pretty much highly mediocre at everything athletic related. Although, I was voted MVP of my little league t-ball team when I was six. For real, I was the only girl on the team and I was unstoppable. I got a trophy and a gift certificate to Chucky Cheese. That team saw my talent...and it had nothing to do with the fact that I was sleeping with all of them. I was a force to be reckoned with; I don't know why they insist on you playing without a tee when you get older...it's absurd. If MLB allowed steroids at one point they should allow tees!

Q: Which artists have most directly influenced your career?

MR: Carol Burnett, Gilda Radner, Meryl Streep and my brother, Ben- he's an actor also and we used to put shows on in our basement together when we were kids.

Q: Where can we see more of your work in 2007?

MR: I have a scene in Tom Dicillo's upcoming film, "Delirious" where I get to tell off Steve Buscemi, and I'm about to start filming a comedy called "Thunder Geniuses." I also have some fantastic art work on display on my Mom's fridge. She's really great about letting people come in to look at them. Don't be fooled by her exclamations of "Who the f%@ are you?" She plays coy.

Q: Let's end with word association. We say wombat and you say...

MR: Tartar.
